First Orthodontic Visit and What to Expect

When you arrive at Nelson Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, you’ll be greeted warmly in our reception area. We are excited to welcome you and ensure your experience is comfortable and informative.

Initial Orthodontist Consultation

Dr. Catherine Miller will conduct a detailed clinical orthodontic examination and explain all aspects of the treatment process. During this examination, the following questions will be addressed:

  • What orthodontic issues, if any, are present?

  • When is the ideal time to begin treatment?

  • What type of treatment is recommended?

  • How long will treatment take?

  • What is the cost of treatment?

If orthodontic treatment is recommended, we will schedule an appointment for Diagnostic Records. If time permits, we may be able to take these records during the same visit.

What Are Diagnostic Records?

Diagnostic records provide essential information to help us create a personalized treatment plan. These records include:

  • Study models of your teeth

  • Panoramic and cephalometric X-rays and tracings

  • A thorough evaluation by Dr. Miller to determine the best treatment approach

Orthodontic Treatment Costs and Payment Options

The cost of treatment varies based on the complexity of each case. During your initial visit, Danette or Tara will review the fees and available payment options. We offer flexible payment plans that suit your budget and accept most insurance plans. Our goal is to make orthodontic treatment affordable for all families.

What Your Investment Includes

Your investment covers:

  • Diagnostic records (X-rays, study models, and a personalized growth study)

  • Active treatment for both early intervention and comprehensive treatment with braces or Invisalign. This includes all appliances, office visits, and procedures performed in the office. Appliances are durable but may need replacement if lost, broken, or damaged due to misuse or failure to follow care instructions. A replacement fee may apply.

  • One set of final retainers is provided upon completion of treatment. A fee will be charged for any additional retainers that are lost or broken.

What’s Not Included

Your investment does not cover:

  • Services provided by other dental offices outside our orthodontic practice

  • Additional treatment costs due to accidents or injuries, such as those causing TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) complications or requiring orthognathic surgery. In such cases, a fee adjustment may be necessary to complete treatment.

Assignment of Benefits

We accept the assignment of benefits for most insurance plans, which significantly reduces your out-of-pocket costs. If we do not accept the assignment from your plan, we will be happy to file claims on your behalf, allowing you to be reimbursed directly. Please notify our office if there are any changes to your insurance policy during treatment so we can adjust your contract accordingly.

Office Hours and Appointment Management

We strive to keep appointments on time to ensure you receive the best care possible. To help us maintain an efficient schedule, please arrive promptly for your appointment. If you need to reschedule, kindly inform us in advance. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our schedule on track, as it helps ensure timely care for all patients.
